When to see a doctor about erection problems
Consider professional evaluation when erection difficulties are persistent, recurring, unexplained, newly developing, or accompanied by other health concerns. ED can sometimes be a sign of another medical problem.
What evaluation may involve
A clinician may ask about your medical, sexual, and mental-health history, review medicines and supplements, perform a physical exam, and use selected laboratory or other tests.
Seek urgent care for treatment complications
If an ED medicine or injection produces an erection lasting more than four hours, or you experience sudden vision or hearing loss after ED medication, seek urgent medical care.
